Spring Branch ISD

Who teaches the teachmen?

Harry Yu is a proud product of SBISD as he enters his 7th year in the district. He grew up attending Pine Shadows Elementary and Cornerstone Academy before graduating in 2007 from Spring Woods High School. After graduation, he spent 8 years in San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Trinity University, and worked as a college access adviser at Highlands High School. Being a 1st generation college student, college access is very important to Harry and has dedicate his work towards giving students opportunities to succeed in college and beyond. After college advising, Harry entered the world of teaching where he taught middle school for a year before deciding to return to his roots and teach at Spring Woods High School. For three years, he taught social studies while also served as the assistant debate coach to a nationally recognized speech and debate program. In his time, he helped coached successful students at the local, state and national levels, including a national champion in Congressional Debate, multiple top 5 finalists at the State Tournaments in extemporaneous speaking, and multiple finalists at Harvard, Yale and UT tournaments.

Debate is something that is dear to Harry, for it single handedly saved his life and gave him a direction and purpose and hopes to build upon his experiences to make Stratford another nationally recognized program. For the past 3 summers, he has been a proud instructor of the Harvard Debate Council Summer Workshop where he continues to hone his skills while enjoying Boston's Clam Chowders and Lobster Rolls.

Other hobbies include comic books, video games and pretending to cook. Still unsure what he wants to be when he grows up.
