Art @ NHE

Welcome to the Art Studio at Nottingham Elementary School! Every student at NHE attends art class one time per week. In art class, students are able to experiment with a variety of materials, learn about cultures from around the world, problem solve and think critically as they complete a project, and experience artistic growth over the course of the school year.

My name is Lindsay Ripley and I have taught Art at Nottingham since 2013. I graduated from The University of North Texas in 2010 with a BFA in Visual Art and a minor in Education. After graduating, I spent three years teaching art at an intermediate school in Conroe. Then, I moved to SBISD where I get to teach art to our Nottingham Knights! I have lived in the Houston area most of my life. I enjoy making art, myself, in my free time. I really love baking, bouldering, and riding my bike. I also look forward to attending local art gallery openings in town on the weekends.

In the classroom, each grade level creates a variety of projects. We develop drawing and painting skills, create sculptures from clay, plaster, and papier mache, collage and construct mixed media works of art, learn about the art of printmaking, and explore fiber arts through weaving, sewing, ebroidery, and applique.

Students have many opportunities to experience art beyond the art classroom at Nottingham. There are a ton of exciting art competitions and contests, such as Rodeo Art, Spring Show, and Jr. VASE. There are also opportunities for students to work on after school art projects like joining our Art Cart Club. Did you know that NHE will be in the Houston Art Car Parade this Spring? PTA generously donated a golf cart to the Art Program and students will have the opportunity to turn it into a mobile work of art! Students also get to use our giant garden loom to practice weaving located between the vegetable garden and the butterfly garden.

At the end of this school year, we will gather as a community to celebrate your student's hard work at our annual NHE Art Show and fundraiser.

I look forward to another fantastic year of creativity and cannot wait to see what your child makes in art class!
