Jamal Washington

As Director of Bands at Northbrook Middle School, Mr. Washington conducts the Honor Band and teaches all beginning brass students. In addition, he assists with the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and all Beginning Band students.

Mr. Washington is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and an honor graduate of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education.  While at Southern University, Mr. Washington was a member of the Southern University Marching Band more affectionately known as “The Human Jukebox”, the Southern University Wind Symphony, the Southern University Brass Ensemble, the Southern University Trumpet & Horn Studio, and various other ensembles on campus. Mr. Washington is also a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman and a Public Affairs Specialist.

After graduating from Southern University, he taught in Louisiana for 4 years before moving to Houston.  Being a band director is his dream job, and to him it is so much more than a job or career. When asked, he describes it as a lifestyle or way of life. When it comes to education, he believes that discipline will always get you further than talent; and that having the fortitude to combine the two unlocks the limitless potential that exists in each and every student.
