Nancy Kahlden

I am the Introduction to Culinary Arts and Exploring Careers teacher.  I have taught 30+ years.  I graduated from The University of Texas in Austin with a BS in Home Economics.  I earned my Master in Curriculum and Supervision from Stephen F. Austin University.  I taught Home Economics in Austin ISD and Alief ISD.  I am also a certified Alphabetic Phonics Therapist.  I served as the Director of Studies and Fine Arts Coordinator at Episcopal High School. I then worked 2 years as a dyslexia specialist in Clear Creek ISD and then "retired" for five years to sail the Caribbean. I have logged in more than 10,000 miles at on a 42' Tayana sailboat.  I returned to a land life with the birth of my first granddaughter.  This is my 10th year at Spring Branch Middle School.

I have two daughters, and two granddaughters.

I love sailing and have sailed not only the Caribbean, but the Greek Islands, Norway, Croatia and Sicily.  This past summer I sailed from Naples, Italy to Cannes, France and then visited ports along the French Riveria.  I did a land tour of Provence, France and then visited Volterra, Florence and Rome, Italy.  I was privileged to see Andrea Bocelli live in his amphitheater in Lahatica, Italy.

I am passionate about good nutrition and staying healthy through sound nutrition.  I feel blessed to be able to help students learn about nutrition and basic cooking and kitchen skills.
