Ms. Mari Olivarez

This is Ms. Olivarez’s 2nd year teaching at Cedar Brook Elementary and 16th year in SBISD. She began her career in education at Landrum Middle School. This year she will teach Resource in Special Education with a focus on language arts and math at the intermediate level. Born and raised in Houston, in the Spring Branch area, Ms. Olivarez attended Ridgecrest Elementary, Landrum Middle School, and graduated from Northbrook High School in 1998. She began her college career at Texas State University in San Marcos and continued her education at Houston Community College. She graduated from the University of Houston Downtown with a Bachelors of Science degree of Psychology in 2012. She also obtained her Masters of Education degree in School Counseling in 2017 from the University of St. Thomas. Ms. Olivarez hopes to one day be a school counselor. She is a life member of the prestigious academic fraternity Psi Chi. Ms. Olivarez loves going to concerts, traveling, cooking, cats, and surrounding herself with amazingly great people that make life fun and fulfilling. She values her family, close friends, her students, and herself. Ms. Olivarez’s has two favorite quotes…Ru Paul, “If you can’t love yourself, how can you love somebody else.” and George Bernard Shaw, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
