Quick facts about me:

  • I'm an Aggie, c/o 2009 (but I'm what you call a "2 percenter").
  • I went to graduate school to study English literature and poetry and taught freshman composition and poetry during my time at SF State and LSU.
  • I married my college sweetheart, Andrew, and we have a 3-year-old named Edie.
  • This is my 7th year of teaching high school English and my 4th year at Memorial HS!

How to contact me/keep up with announcements:

As we navigate the changes in the way we deliver and receive instruction (in-person and/or virtual), ensuring that we are clear on how we communicate is more important than ever. Here are the main actions you should take to be able to access my instruction/direction and important information about our class:

  • Become familiar with the Itslearning home page and “Plans” page - any lesson, handouts, or links from class will be posted there (relatedly, you may use the messaging function on Itslearning to ask me Itslearning-specific questions about our course, and I will write you back using the same expectations as email below);
  • Join Remind list for homework reminders, due dates, last-minute updates (AP: @ap-hsiao20, Academic: @hsiao2020);
  • Check your @mysbisd.org email daily for emails from me, usually about needing your help to troubleshoot online submission errors; and
  • Check Skyward for general announcements about due dates/grading period cutoffs, applies to parents as well.

If you have any questions or concerns, please write to me at Min.Hsiao[at]springbranchisd.com. Please review these expectations for professional email etiquette:

  • Please use your mysbisd.org email and not a personal email like "surferdude00[at]hotmail.com" or "t8tertot[at]gmail.com" so that 1. My inbox doesn't send your email to spam and 2. I can deduce who you are from your email address;
  • Identify yourself in the email using first and last name and your class period (I know this sounds "extra," but I've had kids with the same first name email me on the same day and mixed up my replies!); and
  • Allow 1 business day for me to reply, and note that I do not reply to emails after 9pm (but you can obviously email past 9pm with the expectation that I will be replying you the next morning or have a follow-up conversation to answer question in-person).
