AP Lang/English III Instructor

Hi there! My name is Ms. Min Hsiao (pronounced "Shiao"), and I am an AP Lang and English III instructor for the 2019-2020 school year. I look forward to getting to know you and to facillitate your learning during a pivotal year of your high school career.

Quick facts about me:

  • I'm an Aggie, c/o 2009 (but I'm what you call a "2 percenter").
  • I went to graduate school to study English literature and poetry.
  • I've previously taught as a graduate instructor of freshmen composition at LSU then at YES Prep West as their AP Lang teacher.
  • I married my college sweetheart, Andrew, in 2013.
  • We have a 2-year-old named Edie.

If you’d like to drop by to chat about your progress in my class or would like clarifications in assignments, I am usually in my room, GY203, during these hours (please try to email me the day before, in case I’m in a meeting)—

-Every T/Th morning after 7:20am

-Every 6th period lunch/conference 

-Or after school on M/W from 3-4pm

  • [required] Read one of the books from the following list: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, Wild by Cheryl Strayed, In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, or The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway;
  • [recommended] Take notes in the book or on a separate piece of paper to track plot, character development to help you complete an assignment in the fall that is BASED on your summer reading book; and
  • Begin to read or start to keep up with current events (local/state, national, and international). Try to foster an understanding about the world beyond yourself or the school.
