Spring Branch ISD

Melissa Farber-Counselor

Melissa Farber joined the Bunker Hill family as the counselor in the Fall of 2017.  Before joining SBISD, she taught in HISD in both elementary and middle school settings as a classroom teacher and a reading interventionist. Throughout her years in education, working with students on social and emotional growth has always been her biggest passion.

Melissa attended the University of Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Communication. After a few years in the classroom, she completed her Master’s in Education: Guidance and Counseling at Angelo State University.

As the counselor, Mrs. Farber will provide monthly classroom guidance lessons to all students. Guidance lessons focus on topics such as character education, self-confidence, motivation to achieve, decision-making, goal-setting, problem solving, interpersonal competence, communication skills, cross-cultural effectiveness, and responsible behavior.

Mrs. Farber will also provide responsive services as needed. These can include both individual and group counseling for students. Students can be referred by parents, teachers, administration, or themselves. These services focus on social skills, emotional regulation, academic preparation such as goal setting, as well as other needs. These responsive services are short-term and should not be thought of as therapy or treatment. Referrals can be made if requested.

Counselors in SBISD also handle the G/T referral process and Credit by Examination testing. If you have any questions about either of these programs, please contact Melissa.
