Spring Branch ISD

Debora (Debbie) Blackwood

I was born at Methodist Hospital right here in Houston, Texas.  I grew up in the southwest part of town and graduated from Marian Christian High School.  In 9th grade I was given the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant in the special education department as an elective.  After one week of class, I knew teaching was for me.  I was not a strong student in writing…I even had a teacher who felt I should stay away from any career that would require putting thoughts on paper.  I remember thinking, “I would never tell a student that they could not do something!”   In fact, the whole experience encouraged me to become an effective and exciting writer.   It also gave me the desire to help kids become the “Great Writers” they are intended to be.

I am married to an incredible man and we have three kiddos…one of which attends Spring Forest Middle School, one attends Spring Forest Middle School, and one starts Stratford this year.  My kids think I can be real funny and we try to laugh as much as possible.  We love to go on family bike rides and to play at our neighborhood pool.  Five years ago we added a sweet calico cat named “Tribbles” to our family.  One of my favorite things in the world to do is find a great book and read it while lying on the beach.  I also enjoy going to the zoo, museums, and fun water parks.  When I get the chance I love to run, travel, and to go see a great movie.

I am so excited to be your child's teacher and we are going to have a great school year!  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 713-251-7754.

Go Wildcats!!
