Spring Branch ISD

I'm Larry Shudra

I help people learn to sing, play and enjoy music. I play the trumpet, piano, the guitar and the drums. Outside of music, I like to kayak, to do woodworking, work on cars, go camping, be outdoors and attend live music concerts and travel.

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where I attended Walnut Hills High School. I earned my bachelors of music education degree in instrumental music from Baylor University in Waco, TX. I am a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Educators Association, Gulf Coast Orff Association. I am an assistant director of the Spring Branch Boys Choir. I continually study music education through attending workshops and conferences in Kodaly, Orff Schulwerk, and Dr. John Feierabend's FAME (Feierabend Association of Music Educators).

My vision for the music program at Westwood is to first help students learn to to be musically aware and expressive, to sing or play in tune, be able to keep a steady beat, and for these children to grow up and pass music along to their children. Secondly, to offer students opportunities to make music with other students through choir, The Westwood Xylophone Ensemble, The Westwood Percussion Ensemble, Westwood Family Folk Dance Evening, and musicals/music theater. For the future I want to offer music groups before and after school in drumming, xylophone ensembles, choir, ukulele and modern band (Pop, rock, hip hop, rap, blues).
