French Teacher - Level 1 and Level 2

Bonjour !

FRENCH Level 1 & 2

Dear Student, Parents and Guardians:

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Johan P. Vergult and I have the honor to be your child’s French Teacher this year.  I have been a part-time French teacher at Cornerstone Academy since December 2007.  I love languages and I believe that learning a second or third language is an essential part of a child’s education and an important skill in the 21st century global economy.

I was born in Belgium.  While my native language is Dutch, French has been my secondary language since the age of 9.  I graduated from Mercator College in Ghent, Belgium in 1983 with a Translating Degree in Modern Languages (Dutch, French, English, and German).  In 2003, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.  From 1983 to 1984, I worked as a translator for the Belgian Army while fulfilling my military service.  From 1984 to 1999, I was employed as a U.S. Visa and Antifraud Specialist for the U.S. Department of State in Brussels, Belgium.  In 1999, I moved to the U.S. with my wife, Marianne (who is the Librarian at Cornerstone) and our two children, Hannah and Teresa.  From 1999 to the present, I have been working as a Sr. Immigration Paralegal Specialist with a law firm in Houston, Texas.  Since December 2007, I have been employed as a part-time French teacher at Cornerstone Academy.

I love to travel, run, bike, and working out at the gym.  I enjoy watching a good soccer game and going to the movies.  My community involvement has included: prison ministry, social action network, the Belgian Club, the Houston Chapter of French Teachers, the French National Contest, and being active in a variety of personal development programs.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or on my cell phone (832-405-4807).  Thank you.
